Leftovers Makeover

People have no consensus about leftover food. Yet, leftovers are a fact of American life: Is it a good meal to be experienced again, or an economic necessity to eat it once more? Only one other choice remains: Waste the food by tossing it out.

Personally, I welcome leftovers for another meal. I microwave them in under two minutes, plus there are no pots and pans to clean up. The flip side view: After you pack leftover food back into your refrigerator, it stares you in the face each time you open the refrigerator door: “Eat me; bon appetite!” I know someone who refrigerates leftovers to avoid the guilt of throwing out good food. Yet, she will not eat them. Her decision to throw them out a week later is made for her because she sees (or imagines) fuzz and smallpox-like appendages on the leftover food. “Yeah, I had throw them out. They went bad on me.” Continue reading “Leftovers Makeover”

Land of Morning Calm – 50 Years Later

Over 400 Korean War Veteran’s names in the U.S. were drawn from as many as 5700 applications to attend the 50th Anniversary Commemoration of the signing of the Armistice, July 27, 1953 in Panmunjom, Korea. My husband Doyle was one of them. They could take any guest they wanted but would be required to pay the guest airfare. All other expenses would be covered in Korea. This event was sponsored by the Federation of Korean Industries (businessmen) who planned tours for about 1,000 veterans and guests (worldwide) representing the 21 countries whose veterans served in Korea from 1950-’53.

Doyle and I(wife)boarded American airlines in Kansas City for a flight to Chicago’s O’Hare Airport on July 23rd, 2003 where we transferred to an International 14-hr non-stop flight aboard a Korean Air 747 to Seoul, Korea. The sun never went down as we flew Northwest over Canada and Alaska, the Arctic Ocean and the tip of Russia, then down over the Sea of Japan before turning westward to Seoul. Negotiate Like an Egyptian

When in Egypt, you had better negotiate like an Egyptian. Be sure to leave your cowboy hat at home since the rules are very different in the Middle East.

Egyptian culture has five thousand years of recorded history, so I won’t be giving a history lesson today. Let’s just say that every aspect of life in Egypt has a special meaning and a reason why they do things as they do. If asked why something is done a certain way, they will likely recite history from thousands of years ago.

Egypt is a high context culture which means that a lot what is communicated is transferred implicitly with body language, silence, eye contact, and oblique words or phrases. For example, it is considered impolite to deny a wish to someone. Instead of saying “no”, other phrases are used to describe an inconvenience, which implies that the answer is no. When an Egyptian says “yes”, he or she may actually mean “possibly”. Communication can include intense eye contact and frequent gestures for emphasis. Continue reading “Negotiate Like an Egyptian”

Massage Therapists: Aloe Vera – Best Remedy for Sunburn

A sunburn, the literal burning of the top layer of the skin by overexposure to the sun’s rays, is best remedied by a liberal and frequent application of Aloe vera gel. It’s a natural product, provides immediate, soothing relief and promotes the healing process. It’s also a natural addition to any massage or bodywork therapist’s practice whether you live in a sunny resort area or not.

Vacation destinations that are far more sunny than where one lives, more often than not lead to painful sunburns. It’s just a fact. This is true despite the preponderance of public service announcements warning against the risk and imminent danger of skin cancers, and an overabundance of sun blocks and sunscreens available in almost every store to help prevent sunburn. Yet and still, the most frequent and unexpected souvenir brought home from a sun-filled vacation is, quite literally, a blistering sunburn. And of course, no sunburn is complete without unsightly peeling, flaking and itching skin as the epidermis recuperates from the damage. How I Lost 25kg in 100 Days

A few years ago I was diagnosed with an autoimmune condition and Fibromyalgia that has been both debilitating and life changing. Apart from the fact that it took over a year for a diagnosis, I felt like I rattled when I walked with the number of medications I was taking. Apart from becoming inactive after years of regular exercise I was taking medications that contributed to my excessive weight gain.

Over the course of time I put on an excess 25kg, more than a quarter of my total body weight, it was depressing and uncomfortable to say the least and I wasn’t looking like losing any of it soon. After viewing some photos from a holiday with friends I made a decision that something had to change and the weight had to go. Continue reading “How I Lost 25kg in 100 Days”

How Does Being Born In Shukla Paksha Influence An Individual’s Destiny?

Shukla Paksha and Krishna Paksha are based on cycles of the moon. The fifteen day cycle when the moon is waxing is known as Shukla Paksha while the fifteen day phase when the moon is waning is known as Krishna Paksha. Each Paksha comprises of fifteen tithis (or dates), wherein Shukla Paksha culminates with Purnima or the full moon while Krishna Paksha culminates with Amavasya, which is the new moon night when the moon is not visible. As per the Vedic Astrology, phases of the moon, in conjunction with the tithi when a person is born are believed to be of a great significance.

A very interesting fact about people born under Shukla and Krishna Paksha is that characteristics of people born on the same tithi of either waxing or waning cycle of the moon are believed to be the same. The exception to this rule is when an individual is born on Poornima or Amavasya. Continue reading “How Does Being Born In Shukla Paksha Influence An Individual’s Destiny?”

Bangkok Nightlife – Washington Square, Off the Beaten Track

People familiar with Bangkok or researching for a visit know about some of Bangkok’s more famous — and infamous — nightlife venues. The best-known is Patpong, which dates back to the 1960’s and was popular with soldiers on leave from the Vietnam War. Also well-known are Nana Plaza just off Sukhumvit Road on Soi 4 (Soi Nana) and Soi Cowboy.

In fact, there are several other entertainment areas that have become better known over the years, such as Ratchadapisek Road, Rama IX Road, RCA (Royal City Avenue), Soi Thonglor, and Soi Ekhamai.

But there is one venue not on the maps of most information sources: Washington Square (and environs).

Washington Square fronts onto the south side of Sukhumvit Roadbetween Sukhumvit Soi 22 and Sukhumvit Soi 24, closer to the former than the latter. Continue reading “Bangkok Nightlife – Washington Square, Off the Beaten Track”

An NLP Decision Destroyer Technique and an Elephant in Thailand

In May of 2008 I went on a vacation to Thailand with my dear friend, Nichola. We traveled there without a plan, a hotel room, or any converted dollars to baht. Just a commitment to have an incredible time, and return to Canada with as many unique experiences as possible. By the end of our visit, we accomplished that goal, and more.

Our travels included enjoying the night life and shopping in Bangkok, and the spectacular beaches in Ko Pha-ngan and Ko Samui. The excursion which was most life changing for both Nichola and I was hiking in the northern mountain region of Chiang Mai. It was up in these hills where we each met tribal people, floated down a river on a bamboo raft, and went for a ride in the jungle on the back of an elephant. Sales Letter Example That Sells

Sales Letter Example That Sells, No Matter The Industry

A sales letter is the page designed to sell your product. You can have a fantastic product, but you won’t earn a nickel if your sales letter lacks sizzle.

Your sales letter should grab a visitor’s attention, prove you provide a solution, remove risk, state a call to action, and hopefully (if done well) generate a sale.

Here is an example of how we write a sales letter…
