Home Cooking Lays the Foundations For a Healthy Body

All the fat from the cheese and chips that fast food chains gift, nestle in your body and most of it is seen deposited around the midriff. These fats live in the place of the essential nutrients that home cooking might have provided. From a theoretical point of view, everyone agrees that fast food delicacies are deadly concoctions that their bodies do not need. People do grow nostalgic now and then about home cooking recipes and smells that wafted from grandmother’s kitchen, but somehow they go back to their fast food eateries, like an addict going back to his bottle. People have to be de-addicted from it, and giving them free recipes is one way of attracting people back to cooking wholesome food at home. Following the Industrial Food Chain – Are You Bowing to the King of Corn?

Except for salt and a handful of synthetic chemical food additives, most every item in the supermarket is a link in a food chain that starts with a plant, animal or creature from the sea. In the produce aisle, and even the fish and meat department, it is easy to trace the genesis of the food presented for purchase.

Not so with processed food. The industrial food chain that now feeds most of us most of the time — either at a supermarket or in a restaurant — inevitably leads to the American Corn Belt.

It comes down to food chain facts — the actual elements that comprise the industrial food chain that supplies our fast-paced world. Corn is grown on 80 million acres of U.S. land and has replaced wheat as a top government subsidy for the American farmer. The reason we grow so much corn? Because of the multiple ways it can be processed into our food. Continue reading “Following the Industrial Food Chain – Are You Bowing to the King of Corn?”

America’s Favorite Foods: Some Things Never Change

Americans are an interesting mix of cultures and cuisine aficionados. We love sushi, Chinese and Mexican food, Italian restaurants and designer coffee drinks, yet when it gets right down to it, there are few surprises. We buy the same basics which have been around for decades, mainly because we grow up on them, they’re served up in school lunchrooms, and they are around every corner.

Overall there are no surprises here and this list has seen little change in decades, so let’s start with the Big Ten of America’s overall favorite foods (no veggies in sight):

Hamburgers – since the first White Castle opened, we were hooked

What Are the Fads and Fashions of Food?

How did food fashion change?

Exploration. India had the spices, and China had the tea and those going to far-flung locations started to set up trading. Much of the food we eat today, however, actually originated in the Americas. The pilgrims may have brought the turkey to the first Thanksgiving, but it was the native-Americans who showed up with the pumpkins, corn, beans and sunflowers. While the potato may have saved the Irish from the famine, it was the native-Americans who first cultivated them.

Refrigeration. While it was invented in 1805, refrigerators didn’t really become a must-have have appliance until after World War II when the average household could afford one.

Food That Doesn’t Match the Menu

The question of whether or not you are actually getting the exact same food that is listed on the menu has lingered in the restaurant industry. What guarantee is there that you are going to get exactly what you ordered? There might be many questions surrounding the notion that the food you’re ordering is not exactly as stated on the menu. But rest assured there are few if any legal loopholes within major food distribution chains so there is no cause widespread panic and I’m not trying to stop you from going to your favorite restaurant. On the contrary, most restaurants operate ethically as a restaurant’s success relies mainly on its reputation, level of service, and quality of food. We are about to uncover some of the biggest scams in the restaurant industry and as a consumer you need to know the old practice of “bait and switch” still occurs. Hopefully this article will help you become a more educated consumer so you can make better decisions when it comes to dining out. Continue reading “Food That Doesn’t Match the Menu”

Spiritual Fasting With Diabetes

There seems to be a new move of God in the Body of Christ and a growing hunger for a deeper and more powerful relationship with Christ. Even as I write this article, thousands of men and women across North America and around the world are turning to prayer and fasting as they seek God and His wisdom for their lives.

But can you fast if you have diabetes? That’s a question I am asked regularly on the Daniel Fast Blog that I started on WordPress in December 2007. The answer is a resounding, “Yes!” In fact, many have reported back to me that they were healed of their Type 2 diabetes as a result of changing their eating habits while on the Daniel Fast. The Daniel Fast is a partial fast, typically practiced for 21 consecutive days (you can learn more about the Daniel Fast by following the links at the end of this article).
