Wrapped in Loving Arms

It’s early morning. We’re still in bed. It’s Monday morning and we’re wondering what this week will hold for each of us. I know the previous week was hard for my wife. She has so much on her pitchfork. She has to support so many people. She has so much to do. She has to give a lot of herself.

And in this early morning she asks just one thing of me: “Please hold me. Just hold me.”

We men don’t always understand the role we have to play for our wives. Sometimes we’re rather too pragmatic. We want to give advice. We want to make suggestions for doing it easier, better and quicker. We want to give answers. It may be the right answers, suggestions and advice, but not the right solution right at this moment.

They just want to be held.

God knows how to treat us. From the depths of his being He simply wants to hold us and wrap us in His love. He wants to give us calm in the midst of the storm. He wants to be the solid foundation on which we can anchor ourselves. Wrapped in the circle of His arms, against His chest, we find rest and love.

16So let’s walk right up to him and get what he is so ready to give. Take the mercy, accept the help.

Are you struggling? Do you have a lot of questions? Are the answers escaping you? Is nothing making sense at the moment? Are you wondering if you will even open your eyes here on earth tomorrow morning? Are you worrying about your children? Are you wondering about the country? Have you run out of solutions?

Now is probably a good time to go to God. Like the prodigal son’s father, He is standing with open arms, waiting for you. He is waiting to hug you and hold you and cover you with His love. And where there is love, there is no blame. It’s unconditional. He doesn’t want to give you advice or make suggestions for doing it easier, better and quicker. He’s not waiting with an answer.

He is simply waiting, standing with open arms to wrap you in His love.

Sometimes you just have to go and rest with God. Wait quietly with Him. As open as a barn door to receive his love. Because His love is enough to carry us forward on the road ahead.

What challenge are you facing today? Will someone be sticking a needle into you? Do you need to find money somewhere? Do you need loads of wisdom? Maybe you should first go and sit quietly with God and simply rest in His arms.

He will wrap you in His love…

And you will receive what you need and much more…

Reflection

What are you struggling with?

Where will you find help?

Is God holding you in His arms?

Prayer

Father, I find myself in a dead-end street. I don’t know what to do. The few answers I have aren’t working. I’m tired. I will come and sit with You. Please hold me in Your loving arms. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
