Fat Food Tax to Pay For Health Care? A Modest Proposal – Pros and Cons

Obesity, which contributes to several health problems like cancer, stroke, diabetes and high blood pressure has become epidemic and affects nearly half the U.S population. The number of obese people has doubled since 1985, which has led to a 30% increase in health premiums. The overall financial costs of obesity are greater than those for alcoholism or smoking. The annual cost of treating health problems related to obesity is estimated at upward of $100 billion. Reduction of health costs over time will not happen if obesity is ignored.

Why more taxes?
Two reasons; First and most obvious is to raise part of the money for what is being proposed as universal health care, a subject that carries with it a separate debate. The second and probably most import reason is to raise awareness of what we are eating and how it affects our bodies. The American public is woefully ignorant about nutrition. Fast Food and Street Vendors in Theory

If you go to many countries there are street food vendors everywhere, and they pop up wherever there are hungry people. It’s a perfect business model and it is how free-market entrepreneurs evolve and solve problems, in this case food distribution and feeding people. Now then, many people in the United States believe that fast food is an American thing, and although that might appear to be the case on the surface, philosophically it really isn’t true. There’s nothing faster than the food that a street vendor can cook for you, and he does it without the building.

No, I’m not saying that the food is safer, or better for you, or even that it tastes better, although it usually does taste good because the entrepreneur or street vendor can’t sell anything which tastes bad. And yes, there is something to be said for food safety, and those big fast food restaurants with the big brand names don’t want to have their customers getting sick as that would destroy their customer base faster than anything. Bidding On Restaurant Power Washing Jobs – External Building Pressure Washing

One thing I’ve always said as an entrepreneur is; “to hell with the economy, we are here to win in the market, and will find a way,” and perhaps this is why when I was recently asked by an acquaintance who runs a power washing company what he could possibly do as local businesses in his area which is getting hammered by the economy – that I told him not everyone was hurting in the economy, there are always sector rotations, and some businesses are doing better than others. I told him; “it is your job to find out which customers are doing well, and are willing to spend the money to have their facilities cleaned properly, to get even more business.”

For instance, when retail is down, and the shopping malls are not paying power washers to come as frequently, maybe it’s time to look into restaurants. Oh, but you say those are down too, that may be true, but not the fast food restaurant sector. Generally they do better in a down economy, because they are able to sell their products for lower prices and meet the demands of the consumer which doesn’t have as much money in their pockets. Right now there is a drought, and livestock ranchers are having trouble feeding their animals, so they are taking them to slaughter early. This is causing the price of meat to drop drastically, and we will see more of the one dollar menu items. Fast Food, Slow Food – Decline Of The Junk

As soon as someone says ‘fast food’, you think of burgers and fries. Of course the cheese inside the burger and the soda accompanied along with the meal are an added bonus to the temptation. And then you get a second thought- is it healthy? But obviously, no! The fast food chains would give away their entire fortune without any second thoughts to anybody who could alter the consumer’s ability to have that second thought.

Moving on to the next thought- why are you having second thoughts on having junk food? Of course every doctor, nutritionist or a gym instructor advises against it, to state the obvious- it deteriorate your health. But it is so tasty and it never fails to tickle the taste buds to glory.

Humans are an ever evolving species, and thankfully their brains have finally evolved into, colloquially speaking, far advanced version of what it used to be. Thus now capable of coping with the ‘junk food’ syndrome. Though slowly, but people are indeed taking the ball to the ‘healthy’ side of the court. Fast Food – An Addiction Or A Lack Of Self Control?

I’d like to stress this to all my readers, if you really want to kick the habit of eating unhealthily, you must embark on a lifestyle change. You’ll need motivation and determination to change a habit, if you want to learn how to change a habit, my friend Bryan has written an article on how to break a habit. Is fast food addictive? Yes, it is addictive. Scientists have claimed that that Hamburgers and French fries can be as addictive as heroin. Researchers in the US have found evidence to suggest people can become overly dependent on the sugar and fat in fast food.

Evidence? Dr John Hoebel and colleagues have based their theory on a study of rats. Rats which were fed a diet containing 25% sugar were thrown into a state of anxiety when the sugar was removed. Their symptoms included chattering teeth and the shakes – similar to those seen in people withdrawing from nicotine or morphine, according to researchers. The fast food industry is a competitive one and as a fast food outlet owner you need to stay ahead of the game. That is, you need to always provide a speedy service and good food at affordable prices. It is challenging but you can get ahead with the following catering equipment.

• Anvil Fryer

The Anvil Fryer is ideal for fast food outlets that serve a lot of French fries with their meals. The double pan version of this catering equipment is able to fry up to 8 kilograms of French fries per hour. Fast Food Options While on a Low Carb Dieting Plan

Choosing to follow a lowered carbohydrate, higher-protein dieting lifestyle is an excellent choice, yet a challenging one when it comes to dining on fast foods. The creative dieter can find many solutions, and it just takes some time to re-program your mind to make wise choices when dining.

At the moment it is impossible to see regular and repeated visits to a fast food restaurant as something that would expedite the acquisition of low carb snacks or high protein meals. Still some fast food restaurants do have cooks who are comfortable creating l/c recipes. Those restaurants will receive mention in this article.

The Panda Express has a couple dishes that someone on a low carb diet could enjoy without feeling guilty. One of those is the restaurant’s Beef and Broccoli.
