Filipino Recipes – Camaron Rebosado (Shrimp) Recipe – Pinoy Food

Camaron rebosado is a delicious way to cook shrimp. What gives a different twist to the recipe is the soft luscious shrimp coated with egg and flour mixture making it crispy when chewed. It is comparable to the tempura of the Japanese and the way Chinese cook shrimps coated with batter. It can be made even more delicious when taken with sweet chili sauce. Yummy!

My little boy is very picky with food. But when you serve camaron rebosado on the table, there’s no need to nudge him to eat his food because he will consume everything on his plate in no time. He loves this dish so much that we could never go for a whole week without it. Being so, I have mastered the recipe and I want to share it with other Moms so their little kids will get a chance to enjoy this lip-smacking treat, too. Give it a try and you will surely hear your kids asking for this delectable shrimp recipe every now and then.

Filipino Recipes – Morcon (Holiday Meat Roll) Recipe – Pinoy Food

Being considered a holiday dish in the Philippines, you will often see morcon served during the festive season of Christmas and New Year. It is a meat-roll stuffed with egg, cheese, pickles, carrots, hotdogs or sausages.

Filipinos believe that serving round-shaped foods during the New Year will bring luck and prosperity. So that explains why morcon is ever-present on most tables when families welcome the arrival of yet another New Year because it is round-shaped when sliced.

Filipino Recipes – Fish Sarciado Recipe – Pinoy Food

Most of the time, leftover fried fish will no longer taste good when taken a day after it is cooked. But I don’t like to throw away food, especially when I think of the multitude of people around the world who have nothing to eat. (Bless my little heart.) So almost always, I end up cooking sarciado the next day so the fried fish will still become inviting.

But this recipe is not exclusive for leftover fish only. You can even have newly fried fish to add more flavor to an ordinary dish. The word sarciado simply means cooking or braising with sautéed tomatoes. And here’s a tip that I want to share: use tomatoes which are very ripe. And you can also speed up your cooking by mashing the tomatoes being cooked in oil.

Filipino Recipes – Guinataang Langka (Jackfruit) Recipe – Pinoy Food

Guinataang Langka is unripe jackfruit cooked in coconut milk. Again, this recipe is proof of the versatility of coconut milk when it comes to authentic Filipino dishes. It is a tradition in the country not to eat any kind of meat during the Lenten season. So I grew up knowing that I could taste guinataang langka every Holy Week. But of course, I also get to eat this dish every now and then. Whenever my Mom sees unripe langka in the market, she would buy some and prepare the dish herself. And yes, I got this recipe from her.

This version uses fried dried fish but toasted anchovies can also be used as an alternative.

Filipino Recipes – Shrimp Meat Tortilla (Omelet) Recipe – Pinoy Food

The good thing about tortillas is the fact that you can use almost anything to whip into a wonderful recipe. For this post, I combine pork and shrimps (two of my favorites) into a yummy Shrimp Meat Tortilla good for young and old folks alike. I say so, because from my Grandma down to my little 2-year old boy, this all-around recipe can be served any day. I prefer to serve this during breakfast to break the monotony of cooking plain eggs. With meat and shrimps in the mix, you can tease the taste buds of the people you love. An ordinary breakfast can be turned into something full of smiles and praises whenever I place this dish on the table.

There are still many versions of tortilla that you can prepare out of mixed meats but I always find this recipe as the best meat combination. You can trust me on this!

Filipino Recipes – Buchi Recipe – Pinoy Food

You can ask kids from the provinces what a buchi is and they will all tell you it is a delicious snack. It’s one of my favorites when I was still a schoolgirl and I love it until now. As a mom, I prepare it at home sometimes for my family to enjoy this delicious and chewy merienda (Tagalog word for snack). You can also serve it as a dessert but most Filipinos take it during snacktime.

It is very easy to prepare and anyone who has tried frying can do it. I used to think that it is hard to get it perfect. But when I tried it (using my aunt’s recipe), it was exactly how I wanted it to be. Just the same as the buchi that I bought from the school canteen when I was still a little girl.

Healthy Food Recipe For a Quick Meal

With the heat of the summer and the fact that we have longer days, many times we would like to eat something light as well as later in the evening. Ideally speaking, a quick easy dinner as well as an easy healthy dinner. Here is a healthy food recipe for a quick meal.

Based upon one of my favorite marinades, this healthy food recipe is a quick easy dinner that can be made for 1 or more people (if you are entertaining). How to Improve Your Cooking Skills

For over 30 years, I’ve had a passion for cooking and have always been hungry to sharpen my skills. If you like to cook and would like to learn more, here are a few ways to improve your cooking chops.

Do some research and see if there is a cooking school in your area. In larger cities, there are numerous schools that are usually associated with cooking supply stores. The classes can range from knife skills to basic cooking techniques to ethnic cuisines, along with many others. There are also several specialty classes that are designed around events such as Valentine’s Day, Mardi Gras, summer barbeques, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve and Day. Novices as well as experienced cooks can benefit from taking any of these type classes. Also, the classes may target particular groups of students such as kids, business professionals, singles or couples. Continue reading “How to Improve Your Cooking Skills”
