Christmas Is Not a Diet Killer and January 1st Is Not a Magic Diet Fixer

It’s the season for sweet treats, heavy foods, and overeating. Obviously my patients want me to fatten me up for something special because this is a pretty close representation of what my reception area looks like:

It’s that time of year where even the guys with the most strict eating habits break down and have a cookie or 3. I even helped myself to a nice cheat meal last week. I was out with my fiancé at the Royal Palm Beach Commons Park for one of their monthly Food Truck Invasions.

I had helped myself to a large portion of barbecue brisket (fat and all) and was feeling pretty satisfied. My fiance and her friend decided to split a nice desert from the French Crepe foodtruck. A ridiculous Nutella and marshmallow concoction that looked and smelled like type II diabetes. Continue reading “Christmas Is Not a Diet Killer and January 1st Is Not a Magic Diet Fixer”

Lipotropic Injections – How Effective are Lipotropics Shots For Weight Loss – My Story

First, what exactly are lipotropics?

They are substances that help dissolve or break down fat so that it can removed from your body through your waste.

How do lipotropic injections help you get rid of fat?

They stimulate the creation of lecithin in your liver. This helps to make the cholesterol in your body more liquid and this decreases cholesterol in your blood.

They thwart the buildup of fats in your liver. If your liver is fatty then your liver function will be slow moving and so will your metabolism.

They boost your immunity to illness through causing the production of antibodies that eat up viruses and infections. Continue reading “Lipotropic Injections – How Effective are Lipotropics Shots For Weight Loss – My Story”

Easy Healthy Diet From Paleo Cookbooks

Everybody in this universe wants to lead a healthy life. Most of us are not successful in achieving a normalized body health. Obesity is the main problem for many of us. It is not needed to waste time in gym sweating with the heavy objects. Simply boosting our levels of general daily activity can improve our health to a greater extent. Diet and fitness form a main part of our daily activity. When it comes to diet we have to be cautious about the type of food we intake and the extent of nutrition our body consumes. A proper proportion of the food intake and nutrients level are the causes for boosting our health.

When it comes to eating habits, all of us are designed to eat fresh fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds and animals. This is the ultimate secret (which is not really a secret) to optimal health, losing weight, staying lean, improved performance, reduced risk of injury and faster recovery and healing. A REAL WELLNESS PERSPECTIVE ON WEBMD’s FRIGHTFUL OXYMORON

WebMD produces a daily E-newsletter called Inside WebMD. Targeted to laypersons, it’s free and informative with tips that help readers recognize, understand and deal with common medical issues.

However, the December 18 edition contained a piece about lifestyle that illuminates a common problem when doctor organizations promote healthy behaviors. Doing so, of course, is a grand idea that should be applauded, but doctors seem to have a hard time releasing responsibility to patients. In fact, they sometimes inadvertently tether patients to a parent/child relationship when they describe exercise, nutritious food choices and other health-enhancing activities as medicine. Let me offer an example.

WebMD’s prevention article contained the following: Continue reading “A REAL WELLNESS PERSPECTIVE ON WEBMD’s FRIGHTFUL OXYMORON”

Nutrition Tips For a Healthy Pregnancy

So I got pregnant with no family or friends with kids to give me any tips, and never had any close contact with pregnancy or babies.

What should I eat to help my baby develop healthy and strong?

I was clueless and went to obstetrician with so many questions that I didn’t know where to start… The nurse gave me a list of nutrients I needed to have, other than taking the super vitamins, and I thought: “I have to be eating all day to follow this!” Plus I was nauseous and exhausted. How can you ask a pregnant to eat all that? Insane! And I realized I had to figure out a diet on my own.

Throughout my entire pregnancy, I could not smell chicken, meat, fish and any greasy stuff from miles. Can you imagine eating it? Noo way! Continue reading “Nutrition Tips For a Healthy Pregnancy”

We’re Wired to Maintain a Healthy Weight

Suppose you had a “fat meter” that would send a loud “STOP!” message to your brain once you’d accumulated enough fat. Suddenly, you’d have no desire for pizza, ice cream, or potato chips. You’d look at these favorite foods, even smell their enticing odors, and wouldn’t even be tempted. Or maybe you would decide to eat anyway, and your metabolism would just rev up to burn off the extra calories.

Nice fantasy, huh? Well, it’s not so far-fetched. Believe it or not, you do have that built-in mechanism. Why, then, you’re asking, do you always feel driven to eat, even though you consider yourself overweight or struggle to maintain your weight? And why do you gain weight when you aren’t restraining yourself?

Too Much on Your Plate?

When we want to lose weight, we find an eating plan that makes sense to us. We learn the principles, commit to the strategies, eat according to plan and lose weight. This should be the end of the story. But it’s not. For over 99% of people the story does not end there. What happens?

In short, LIFE happens. We get additional pressure from work. We have a fight with our spouse. Our eight year old goes through a”a stage”. Our mother-in-law comes to visit. Any one of a million possible scenarios happens that causes additional stress in our lives, and has us reaching for a chocolate bar. Before we know it, we’ve regained that 5 kg’s we lost and another 2 kg has come to join it.

This is the yoyo effect emotional eating can have on our weight loss attempts. Everyone has stress in their lives, problems to solve and negative emotions to deal with, but not everyone eats in response to these common aspects of the human condition in the modern age. Emotional eating is a learned response – a learned way of dealing with unpleasant emotions. And as such, it can be unlearned. Continue reading “Too Much on Your Plate?”
