Fast Food Nutrition: An Oxymoron?

As many people do, I find that in my busy schedule I do not have time to prepare my own meals, so incidentally I eat out quite a bit. Sometimes I will sit down and eat, but for the most part I find myself going through the drive through, and eating in my car to save on time. When eating fast food you will find that it can be difficult when you are trying to make an attempt to eat somewhat healthy. In most places, you will find that the nutritional information of the food you are eating is not available at all. When I go to get a burger, I will always know the caloric content of my meal when I look at the nutrition menu.

Fight Back the Effects of Fast Food With Natural Antioxidants

As much as anyone may try to avoid fast food meals, today’s fast paced living makes fast food restaurants an easy and convenient on-the-go choice. Here are some recommendations as to some foods and supplements you can use to fight back an occasional fast food splurge.

In the Mood for Fried Chicken? Fight Back the Fat with Red Wine Resveratrol

When you eat a high-fat meal like fried chicken or a mayonnaise-laden hamburger, you are flooding your system with triglycerides, and slowing circulation. Consuming resveratrol-rich foods such as red grapes or red wine could help you prevent some of the negative effects. Resveratrol prevents the formation of bad cholesterol and can be obtained in supplement form without the calories or sugar of red wine or grapes. In addition, Coenzyme Q10 – a coenzyme which exists naturally in our bodies – can help prevent the oxidation of bad cholesterol, which is the cause of artery-blocking plaque also known as atherosclerosis. Fast Food and Calories

Here in the technology and information age, we have more knowledge and advancements than ever before in history. Sixty years ago, who would have ever thought that you could send an instant message over a phone, let alone take a picture with it? Sixty years ago, who would have thought we would be capable of sending a man to the moon, but fail the war on obesity and cancer?

Isn’t it oddly shocking that America is so well-advanced in everything except health and fitness? While the fitness industry tells us to count calories and exercise for fat loss, we grow fatter and fatter as a nation.

Running parallel to the fitness industry is the fast food chains, doing their best to keep on the top of “healthy eating” trend. It seems the fast-food industry can tailor to anyone’s dieting needs with “fat-free,” “low-calorie,” and “low-carb” menu items. Continue reading “Fast Food and Calories”

Fast Food Candida Diet Style

Although diet and the fast food restaurant do not commonly go hand in hand, many quick food joints are providing options for the diner who seeks healthier fare. Even a person trying to follow the candida diet can enjoy a fast food meal by avoiding sugars and starches and going for the vegetables and proteins listed on the menu.

Of course, in a perfect world, one would always have time for a nice, home cooked meal with plenty of fresh ingredients and whole foods. But reality is that fast food restaurants come in very handy on days when you are on the go or simply don’t have the time, energy or desire to slave in the kitchen.

Fast food restaurants often get a bad rap, but just like the grocery store, most of these restaurants offer both healthy and less-than-healthy options. It is the individual’s responsibility to make the right choices, and there are plenty of meal possibilities to keep the candida dieter on track. Continue reading “Fast Food Candida Diet Style”

Fast Food Chains and Obesity

This is a good question. Are fast food restaurants to blame for the epidemic of childhood obesity? Does that toy in the kid’s meal cause them to gain weight? I think we should look at this issue rationally.

How the Blame Game Fails our Kids: If we can blame someone else for what is wrong, then we can absolve ourselves. I include myself in this, there are plenty of issues where I’m guilty of the same thing. However, that is not going to turn this epidemic around. Blame is what my mother calls a “willyword.” It may make you feel better but it does absolutely no good.

It’s Our Job: Could the schools, restaurants and the rest of society help in this area? Absolutely. Is it their responsibility? No. No, it is my job and your job. It’s the task of the parent to educate their children about good nutrition, the need to exercise and so on.

The Fast Food Overview

Fast food has become the world’s most popular substitute for eating at home in cities across the globe. It is an American original invented and grown in America. It is a detailed reflection of American attitudes and culture. It’s is tasty, convenient, inexpensive and fast a factor which makes it dear to millions of people who consume it on a daily basis. Fast Food Advertising to Children

Over 10 billion dollars is spent on fast food advertising to children annually in numerous fashions. The majority of these ads are for food and drink that is high in fat, sugar, calories, salt and low in nutrients. Its not as much the advertisement itself as much as it is the tactic used to entice our children to want their product. The most obvious media venue is television advertisement. The marketing gurus know how to get into childrens heads and how to get their most wanted response. They know that children can and do influence their parents when it comes to food purchases.

On an average children view over 40,000 commercials a year most of which are for candies, cereals, toys, and fast food restaurants. Fast food advertising to children is not only limited to fast food restaurants. If it is fast and it is food then it is fast food. Its fair to say that fast food advertising is big business. Additionally, trying to curtail children from television viewing is a daunting task particularly since many kids have televisions in their bedrooms. The methods used for advertisement are within the norm for advertising. Businesses spend money to get their product noticed by what should be their target audience. In other words, you’d be hard pressed to find an advertisement on 60 Minutes for Cocoa Krispies just like you’d be hard pressed to find an advertisement on the Nickelodeon Channel for T.D.Waterhouse. 6 Negative Effects Of Eating Fast Food

1. Fast food has a very high energy density. About 65 percent higher than a typical diet and twice as high as recommended healthy diets which makes us eat more than we otherwise would. Energy density refers to the amount of calories an item of food contains in relation to its weight. Foods with a high energy density confuse the brain’s control systems for appetite, which are based solely on portion size.

2. British researchers from the Medical Research Council Human Nutrition Center and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine have determined that repeated eating at McDonald’s or KFC or Burger King, people are more likely to gain weight and become obese. This is because fast food not only contains many more calories than traditional food, but also is more likely to undermine normal appetite control systems. Health Alert: Fast Food Wraps and Salad Have Sickened Hundreds

Over 400 people have been sickened by eating salad, food wraps and other items that contain fresh (uncooked) vegetables at various fast food chain restaurants since May 1, 2018. Others recently became ill after eating prepared salads or using vegetables bagged as salad ingredients brought home from food store chains. Some people who like to lick the spoon after mixing homemade or prepackaged cookie or cake dough also got sick due to the flour (already recalled) or eggs (salmonella) in the mix. Why have things like fresh vegetables and flour suddenly become a possible health threat?

No one will like the answer, but it’s the truth. I have been writing about this for over twenty years. In the late 1990s and early 2000s a lot of people started to become seriously ill and some died after eating fresh vegetables or prepared foods that contain them like salads, tacos, wraps and so on. Others got sick from raw batter and some fruits. Please note that this wasn’t just your average case of food poisoning caused by stale or undercooked food. These cases involved potential killers like campylobacter, e coli and listeria. Why so many cases and how did they get into our food?
