Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Antioxidants – A New Improved Source

As a result of the ongoing wellness revolution, more and more people are learning that they need to add high quality nutritional supplements to their diet in order to help prevent and reverse a wide array of chronic degenerative diseases. The basic reason for this is very simple–we are genetically programmed to eat only the simple, whole foods that were consumed by our stone-age ancestors. To whatever degree we deviate from this kind of diet, we deprive our bodies of key necessary nutrients and ingest substances that actually cause them harm. (93)

Tragically, about 90% of the average American diet now consists of mummified foods that are lacking in the key nutrients we need; even worse, they commonly contain a wide array of ingredients that are either downright toxic or that seriously disrupt the functioning of our bodies in many ways. And even the natural produce we eat–unless it is organic and vine-ripened–is likely to be deficient in many key micronutrients that our bodies need in order to be healthy. The Perils of a White Trash Diet

According to the latest statistics from the United States’ Center for Disease Control (CDC):

  • 66% of adults age 20 years and over are overweight (including obese)
  • 32% of adults age 20 years and over are obese
  • 17% of adolescents age 12-19 years are overweight
  • 19% of children age 6-11 years are overweight

Those are really horrifying statistics. We have become an oversized bunch of people, but we lie to ourselves to try to find peace with it by saying things like: “I’m comfortable with the way I look,” “I’m not as big as she is,” or joke about it by saying “I’m shakin’ what my Momma gave me.” I have news: your Momma did NOT give you that. But she may have given you some bad eating habits.

How to Start Eating Healthy

Start Eating Healthy

To be able to eat healthy, you need to understand what the body needs to stay healthy and functional. Your body needs food for three main reasons. Firstly as fuel, to keep us warm and supply the energy we need to stay alive and to move about and work. Secondly, food supplies the necessary materials for growth and to repair worn tissues. Thirdly we need vitamins, minerals and other substances that are necessary for the chemical processes that take place inside our bodies.

The energy supplied by food is measured as kilojoules. Two-thirds of this energy is used to maintain our normal body temperature, the normal tone of our muscles and to keep our heart and other vital organs functional and healthy. Even when we stay in bed all day we will still need about two-thirds of our normal food intake to maintain our metabolic systems. Normal activities such as getting dressed, eating, walking, working and playing requires about 3350 kilojoules. A housewife uses about 9200 kilojoules to perform her basic household tasks.

7 Tips For Super Health

What is real health and how do we get there? Getting down to your target weight, exercising every day, eating a balanced diet – is that health? Here are 7 Super Health tips that I’ve gained from my health journey.

Super Health Tip # 1 – Become Your Own Doctor – Get a 2nd Opinion – Your Own. Three critical facts about today’s doctors. First, they have little, if any, training in nutrition, or how to prevent or cure diseases. Second, they treat your symptoms, not the cause, and third, statistics show that 94% of them get paid for prescribing drugs. 3 good reasons for a 2nd opinion.

Super Health Tip # 2 – Balance is Critical. A stool Has 3 Legs – just one or two and you fall over. What you eat determines 70% of your health. Exercise determines 20% – do something. Your health environment, both internally, the way you think and feel, and externally, your social network, is 10%. Continue reading “7 Tips For Super Health”

Lose That Weight Forever! Yes, You Can!

In the last 20 years, there’s been a dramatic rise in obesity and related health issues. Eating trends that promote the consumption of larger portions, unhealthy foods and limited physical activity are only part of the problem. Busy lifestyles and longer work hours are also contributing factors.

Statistics currently show that almost two-thirds of U.S. adults are overweight or obese. Studies show that the prevalence of obesity has steadily increased among both genders, all ages, and encompasses all racial and ethnic groups, and affects people at all educational levels. Since 1960, the number of overweight people has increased from 45 to 66 percent, with the greatest rise occurring after 1980.

If current trends continue, obesity will soon surpass tobacco as the leading cause of preventable death in the U.S. Obesity can increase the risk of numerous health conditions and leads to an unhealthy lifestyle.

Benefits of Almonds – A Natural Fat Burner!

Discover the incredible weight loss benefits of almonds, how to best prepare them and how much you should eat to get maximum benefit from almonds – one of nature’s amazing fat burning foods.

We consider almonds to be nuts, but in reality they are seeds from the fruit of the almond tree. However, similar to a peach pit that is found in the center of a peach, these seeds are encased in a shell in the fruit of the almond tree.

Covered by a hard shell, the meat of the almonds is off-white, with a thin, grooved, brown skin. That is the reason that we consider them to be nuts: they are chewy like nuts, have the same consistency as nuts, and they are good for you, too! Tradition, Family Values, & Healthy Living

Family traditions are usually defined as a combination of social ideals, personal attitudes, ideas, and environment derived from your parents or relatives, while family values usually refer to how you frame your personal life in the context of political and social issues. Family traditions include honoring the people and places from which they come from.

Tradition and values can vary from family to family, but what doesn’t change is the effect these traditions and values have on your body, seeing as most traditions include unhealthy meals. You can have it all: tradition, values, and healthy living. It is about living your life in balance or moderation.

You should always eat a balanced diet. Diet extremes harm your body rather than provide balance. Even eating the same foods over and over again are not necessarily good for you on a daily basis. If you have broccoli one day, have string beans another. If you have good, down-home cooking for one meal, make sure that one of your other meals is filled with fiber, whole foods, little sugar and little fat. Life is about many choices. Make your choices wisely. Continue reading “Tradition, Family Values, & Healthy Living”

My Second of 3 Free Reviews! Foods That Help Burn Fat

In this e-book review it points out the good and bad of carbohydrates. By breaking carbohydrates down into two basic groups, you have complex carbs and simple carbs or sugars. Complex carbs include foods like whole wheat breads, cereals, and grains. Simple sugars include just that, anything that has a high amount of sugar, such as candy, regular soda pop, and etc…

Another point that I appreciated in this e-book is that it gives you tips on what to look for when shopping for food. Such as it says to look for whole grain/whole wheat foods which contain more fiber. Really when you think about it fiber plays an important role when it comes to losing fat or staying lean. Why? Well for one thing fiber slows your digestion down and keeps you feeling fuller longer, and you will be less tempted to eat more when you have finished the appropriate meal sized. Fiber has also been linked to lowering cholesterol levels and a lower risk of heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
