Just like their Beagle and English Bulldog ancestors, Beabull puppies are normally affectionate, loyal and playful. However, there can always be a bad apple in any bunch. Banana Cue: A Comfort Food

Filipinos love to eat. Most say that the world eats 3 square meals a day, that is breakfast, lunch and dinner. We, Filipinos, eat 6 square meals a day. It is broken down into breakfast, mid-morning snack, lunch, mid afternoon snack, dinner and midnight snack. It is already written in the society’s psyche. What am I trying to point at? We love food and we love to eat. As long as there is something on the table or inside the fridge, we would tend to finish it.

Dogs With Food Allergies: Novelty Protein Dog Food

The Story

I have a boxer, bull mastiff mix named Leo, who struggles with itching and scratching all the time. It got to the point to where I felt so bad for him not only because he’s my best friend but because I can tell he was uncomfortable. I finally had enough and gathered up my veterinarian’s phone number and took a trip to the vet. Leo was having rashes on his belly and kept licking his paws to were they were getting infected. A Guide to Food "Allergy" Etiquette

Likely you’ve noticed, but there are a growing number of people with food “issues.” It might be a food intolerance, a food sensitivity, or even a very serious, life threatening food allergy. I’m one of them. Maybe you are too.

But maybe you are not. And maybe you are now daily exposed to people talking about their food avoidances in the work place to stores promoting the latest in allergy-free products, and are even told not to bring your favorite foods to schools or potlucks for the sake of a small minority that might have an adverse reaction to such foods. SO annoying, right? But seriously, does this make you angry?

Just let me tell you, no one chooses to have food issues. Parents do not choose for their sons or daughters to go into anaphylactic shock when exposed to peanuts, dairy or any other random foods that might normally seem completely benign. In fact, it’s something all of us parents fear. While you are grumbling about peanut butter, can you imagine the fear of that parent praying their child does not accidentally ingest or even come in contact with the food that could land them in the hospital, or worse, while they are at school or out in the world? In a far less serious example, I did not choose to break out in painful acne all over my back every time I eat dairy. And others did not choose to experience terrible gas and bloating when eating foods with gluten, sugar, soy, etc. I know sometimes it may seem that people are using food avoidance as a diet or other regimen apart from a true food allergy, but give them the benefit of the doubt. All of us in a second flat would choose to be able to eat anything we desired if given the ability. Oh how I would LOVE to eat a piece of cheesecake without paying a price. Or really, just to have a simple latte. Or buy a thick chocolate chip cookie full of high quality butter. Great, now my mouth is watering, and I digress. What to Have for Lunch? Try Peaches and Banana

If you are looking for what to have for lunch, try peaches and banana. Not only will they fill you up, you will take in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and still not add appreciably to your weight. Not bad if you are like me, not so young and watching everything you eat.

Why not? After all, the body is not what it once was, the food-grinding machine of a sixteen-year-old – or a twenty-six-year-old, for that matter.

Cheeseburgers or Egusi/Melon soup with pounded yam are yummy food, but you don’t always need to eat them – unless, of course, you are lucky enough to be into manual labor.

But I am not so lucky, as I mostly do a sedentary job. Not that I don’t like my job, but I wish it came with some real physical activities – just enough to break sweat and keep the weight perpetually off, but not so much as to tire the ankles, the knees and the bones. I’ll be needing those when I hit age ninety, like my nonagenarian friend. Well, that is by the way. Continue reading “What to Have for Lunch? Try Peaches and Banana”

Survival Food: Peanut Butter

There is an increasing trend across America – people are storing more food. Why? The reasons are many and they include increasing food prices and concerns over the economy. Food storage programs generally consist of buying quantities of canned goods as well as staples like beans, sugar, salt, and wheat.

One of my biggest priorities in Preparedness is increasing my food stores. Although not difficult – for me it is a matter of money, space, organization and planning.

One of my favorite food storage staples is peanut butter. It can be eaten right out of the jar, on crackers, on bread – it just tastes great. From a nutritional viewpoint – peanut butter does pretty well. High in fat and containing equal amounts of carbohydrates and protein – it has the calories needed to make a big dent in your caloric intake needs daily.

Bulimia Warning Sign – One Red Flag Indicating Bulimia

One of the “tricks” I used back as a pre-teen to conceal my bulimic behavior was using my meal napkin as a “dumping pit” during mealtimes.

Yep, you know that common wipe-your-mouth napkin that you rest your silverware on when you set the table? Well, that napkin enabled me to deposit food, mainly meat that I just couldn’t stand chewing, from my mouth to the napkin where it would stay until I could leave the table and get rid of it.

You see, I had developed quite the gag reflex as a pre-teen. Mostly, from what I remember, was when I was chewing meat of any kind. If there was even a tiny bit of gristle or fat in the meat, it would make me gag. Of course, gagging at mealtimes is frowned on and it should be. It’s not very comfortable for other members sitting around the table to hear that sound, however, it can be a “red flag” to a parent that there may be a food issue and would need watching. Dining Out on Dine in the Dark

“Do you think you will able to dine out on this experience with your friends in Brisbane?” I asked Jane who was visiting from Australia. She sat next to me, but I couldn’t see her as the room was pitch black, of the “can’t see your hand in front of your face” variety.

“Absolutely,” she replied.

Dine in the Dark is an innovative restaurant in Phnom Penh, Cambodia that creates the experience of what it is like to eat a meal as a blind person. Phones, watches and any other things that might produce light have to be surrendered into a locked box in the lobby. The meal choices are western, Khmer and vegetarian. Grant, Jane and I ordered Khmer. Nick – who is Khmer – opted for western. Then Joe, our waiter/guide, introduced himself. We later learned he went blind three years ago from chicken pox.

How To Tell If Your Pet Reptile Likes You

I would say that most herpetologists may not be too concerned about whether or not their reptile likes them. They usually have quite a collection of snakes, lizards, turtles and even frogs. They may appear to be well cared for on a physical level and neglected on a personal level. Reptiles are also known as “exotic pets.” The reptile trade is appalling and many people including myself do not support this trade. Around ninety five percent of animals will die being poorly transported and insufficiently cared for on their journey to and from different countries.

Like children, animals are a reflection of their home life, and their happiness and contentment will depend largely on the quality time you are prepared to give them. Reptiles are very ancient creatures they go back a very long way in history. All reptiles are ectothermic’s therefore they display affection a little differently than a cat or a dog. In the wild they can almost stop their heart from beating. They have the ability to slow down their metabolism in winter to hibernate, this is also known as brumation.
